Dumpster Size Guide: Choosing 10, 20, 30 or 40 Yards
Not sure which container to order? Here's how much each size holds and which projects fit.
How cubic yards translate to real loads
One cubic yard is about the volume of a standard washing machine. A 10-yard container holds roughly three pickup-truck loads, a 20-yard around six, a 30-yard about nine, and a 40-yard roughly twelve.
Match size to project
Small bathroom remodel or garage cleanout: 10 yards. Kitchen remodel, flooring or a mid-size roof: 20 yards. Whole-home cleanout or addition: 30 yards. Commercial demolition or new construction: 40 yards.
When to size up
If you're torn between two sizes, choose the larger one. A swap-out costs more than the price difference between sizes, and overfilled containers can't legally be hauled.
